So on our rainy day we decided to go to the aquarium and see some of bergens locals. I love aquariums, and we all enjoyed getting up and close with all the marine diversity! There were some beautiful corals and worms with long, fine filtering devices waving in the current. We also enjoy the seal show, although the seal was actually pregnant and not really interested in performing and didn’t really do much (who would blame her). Her husband had passed away a couple of months back, and she looked a bit lonely all by herself in the pool. Hopefully the aquarium are getting her some new friends who she can play with very soon! Back home David, Jodie and I had decided to help out mum and make dinner for the night, so we treated them to a thai green curry!
The next day we set off for a road trip! Maps in hand, and music plugged in we set off towards Folgefonna, a glacier! The route went from my house in Bergen via Os to Hatvik where we got the ferry to Vennjaneset on Fusa! From here we drove to Tørvikbygd to get the ferry to Jondal. In Jondal the route suddenly got steeper and eventually we reached snow! It was the weirest feeling driving through cut out roads from the snow, with walls of snow towering above you on each side! We had only half an hour earlier been driving past lush green meadows in summer! At the top it was even snowing! It was so bright too, and without appropriate footwear to walk on the snow we were stumbling around like the classic British tourist. On the way down again we stopped at a lake, and enjoyed the views. Back in Jondal we took the ferry across again to Tørvikbygd before heading towards Norheimsund and back to Bergen! We stopped by Steindalsfossen and walked under the mighty roar of the waterfall! It was particularly powerful that day, with so much water running down with such force! Almost deafening! For the thrill we also stood at the bottom the waterfall and felt the wind and spree from the crashing waters! Incredibly exhilarating and hilarious, we got soaked!
Back home we enjoyed a delicious Mexican made by my mum. We then competed in my Dad’s surprise quiz, all about Norway. A lot of fun! David came first, Jodie and I joined second, Mum third and Peter last. We then went for a quick walk up Fanafjellet to enjoy a beautiful sunset with Eidi.
On our last day in Bergen I took them for an intense hike from Fløyen to Ulriken, locally known as Vidden. A tad too ambitious, my friends did not entirely appreciate the walk although I think they still apprieciated to stunning views and the relief of finishing such a hike! 7 hours later we made it to Ulriken, and took the cable car down to the bottom and headedinto town for a truly well deserved burger at my favourite place to eat: Inside Rock Café.
