Part 14: Brisbane sightseeing

The first day of 2016 I woke up early and went for a morning swim in the pool. I then had a loong, hot shower before an absolutely amazing fry, coffee and orange juice on the terrace. Perfect start to the New Year? I think so! We had already decided that post-NYE breakfast had to be amazing, so we didn’t hold back on anything. There was toast, baked beans, bacon, sausages and scrambled egg, all in plentiful quantities. The idea was that we were going to be slightly more hungover and in need of a big breakfast, but as we didn’t even make it out anyway the breakfast was enjoyed in a fully un-hungover state!

After breakfast we packed up, sadly left the beautiful apartment and headed out into Brisbane’s city centre to see the sights, including the Southbank and the famous city beach! A river runs through Brisbane, but it’s pretty polluted and with unfriendly fish and sharks, so the Australians have taken matters into their own hands built their own beach and public pool instead! We walked along the promenade on walkways covered with walls of purple flowers for shade, and admired the city’s skyline. It was a shame we didn’t spend more time there, it looked like Brisbane had a lot to offer and had a good city vibe! We only spent a little over an hour in the city before we set off to Rainbow beach, but I definitely liked what I saw. On arrival we pretty much just went straight to bed after setting the tent up and watching geckos hunt bugs on the walls of the communal kitchen for a while.
